PAUL WEISSMANN ON THE ISSUES:

THE BUDGET:
Paul Weissmann believes that if we do not solve our state budget crisis, nothing else will really matter. During the last recession, the Legislature made drastic cuts, raided cash accounts, played budget gimmicks, and raised over $71 million in new fees (while claiming no new taxes!). Paul supports the SAVE (Savings Account for Education) Initiative as a way to resolve our unstable budget.
EDUCATION:
Paul Weissmann has been endorsed by the Colorado Education Association because of his commitment to education. The legislature must provide adequate, consistent funding for our schools. It should eliminate all but the Federally mandated CSAP tests (saving over $8 million per year), and it must reduce class sizes.
And the legislature must not forget our commitment to our universities and colleges. The legislature has cut millions of dollars from higher education during the last recession. The middle class is getting squeezed out of the opportunity to attend college. We must reverse this trend. The legislature must fully fund our institutions of higher education and it must increase financial aid.
THE ENVIRONMENT:
Paul Weissmann is endorsed in his reelection bid by the League of Conservation Voters and the Sierra Club. He continues to earn 100% ratings from both. Two years in a row, Paul has offered the only comprehensive water conservation measures in the Legislature. He will continue to fight for a clean environment.
ETHICS
Paul has been teh "go-to-guy" on questions of ethics, chairing two committees to investigate lapses by other members. He believes that the integrety of the process, and the people who serve, is paramount.
